G-Research is delighted to become principal sponsor of the British Physics Olympiad

G-Research is delighted to announce its partnership with the UK’s leading physics education trust, the British Physics Olympiad (BPhO).

The BPhO exists to promote and support the study of physics through activities such as competitions, challenges, learning materials and teacher training. It is also part of the broader International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), with responsibility for preparing and sending the British team to the competition every year.

As principal sponsor, G-Research’s support will enable the trust to expand its work, reach more students, and provide more schools with free access to its papers.

G-Research’s sponsorship of the BPhO is a recognition of the importance we place on physics, and STEM subjects more generally. We know the skills and knowledge the study of physics gives you are eminently applicable to a cutting edge workplace, but sadly underinvested in and underappreciated more widely.

A number of the company’s researchers and engineers come from a physics background – including our Head of Research – and with our sponsorship we want to help inspire the next generation of students to explore the beauty of physics.

Andrea Caleo, a senior quantitative researcher at G-Research who won a silver IPhO medal, saw the organisation’s impact first-hand.

“Physics Olympiads are a fantastic celebration of science. They really develop young people’s passion for the subject and give them a glimpse of the type of problem-solving involved in the professional world of research. I’m delighted G-Research are supporting the BPhO.”

Vuk Radovic, another quantitative researcher at G-Research who won medals at the IPhO and the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics, believes they had a huge bearing on his career.

“Competing in physics and astronomy competitions at school set a high bar for everything I did in the years to come. The hard work I invested in these competitions, and the mind-set they helped me develop, were key to securing a number of internship and full-time offers in quantitative research – without a doubt, the most competitive industry out there.”

We look forward to working closely with BPhO over the next 12 months.
