Our July Grant Winner

Each month, we provide up to £2,000 in grant money to early career researchers in quantitative disciplines. Our aim is to support and assist PhD students and postdocs conducting research, particularly with costs that may be difficult to get funding for elsewhere (e.g. travel for those who are caring for children, or expenses for volunteer work related to research).

Julian Sieber (Imperial College London)

“I’m a mathematician interested in the long-time behaviour of non-Markovian dynamics and applications to slow-fast systems driven by fractional noise. The latter provide a model for phenomena happening in an environment which moves on a much faster time-scale. Concrete examples are especially prevalent in climate science (e.g. the earth’s mean temperature, which is influenced by anthropogenic radiative forcing in the short term, but the eventual equilibrium will also depend on the slowly changing temperature of the deep sea). G-Research’s grant enables me to accept a talk invitation to the University of Angers, France. As the host, Prof. Fabien Panloup, is a leading expert in the field, my research will greatly benefit from this visit.”
